Chico the Chollo (Another Poem)

There once was a chollo
Named Chico
Who thought school was just
For freakos.
“A gun is more fun than a textbook”
He thought.
Then out on the street
An Uzi was bought.

On that street, Chico
Was a big wheel
With all his homies
And drug deals.
Crack and smack
Fed his wallet and brain
Til too many OD’s
Brought him in from the rain.

Not wanting to wear
Any more police collars
Chico decided
To dry-clean his dollars.

He said goodbye
To crime and the street
Going legit helps
To beat the Heat.

He liberated
All of his honey
And laundered all of
His ill-gotten money.
Wearing lots of gold,
Dressed with fine passion,
Chico always was
A man of fashion.

It is easy to see
Without saying more:
Ex-chollo Chico
Opened a clothing store.
But only with spray paint
Could he write with ease
So his storefront window
Presented a big tease.

(That he never learned
How to spell.
This, to the reader,
Should misfortune foretell.)

He sprayfully wrote across
His window and door
The name of his business:
CHICO’S CLOSE STORE.

For many customers,
Chico was
Excitedly hopin’
But he went bankrupt fast
Cuz no one thought
His store was open!
