"Lucy died last night"
Michael Swoheld informed me this morning that Lucy passed away.
The pug led a very long and satisfying life.
She was born when Eisenhower was President. In dog years, she lived to be one thousand and one.
During the three weeks each year that Lucy stayed with "Uncle Paul" she used to tell me how difficult it was being a black dog in the Nineteen Fifties.
She reminded me that the fabled de-segregation case of 1954--Brown vs Board of Education occurred the same year that Willie Mays made the most spectacular catch in the history of the World Series.
"Juz looook at howl intograted the bleacher seats arrrrre,"
Lucy used to say, her canine accent was inimitable.
