Wes Montgomery From 1942

Born in 1923, Wes Montgomery "didn't pick up the guitar" until 1942 but this 30-minute HQ European performance video is from the "mid-1960's"

If we could christen a HOLY TRINITY of jazz guitar in alphabetical order, it would be Charlie Christian, Wes Montgomery, and Django Reinhardt

And then along came this email...

Paul

Though he didn't pick up the
guitar until he was nineteen,
young Wes Montgomery was
soon learning Charlie Christian's
entire solos by ear.

Today we celebrate his life
and music with a mid-1960's
performance, during which
Wes plays three numbers.

Blogger's Notes
If Lester Perkins had not sent me this email, this page would not exist.

His name is a portmanteau:
Lester Perkins = Lester Young + Pinetop Perkins
